Requirements for French majors and minors:

All majors must take 24 hours above the 200-level, including:

  • MLFR22 303-304 Transition to French Literature (or their equivalent)
  • MLFR 305 Advanced Composition
  • MLFR 306 Advanced Conversation
  • Two French studies courses from among the following: MLFR 408, 440, 491
  • Two French literature courses from among the following: MLFR 450, 452, 453, 454, 455, 456, 457, 462, 490, 497

A minor in French requires 12 semester hours of upper-division course work, to include

  • Three courses selected from MLFR 303, 304, 305, 306, and 370
  • One 400-level course

Courses Scheduled for Fall Semester, 2008

MLFR 101: Introductory French I: Designed to give students a basic knowledge of the language as well as the culture of the French-speaking world. College credit will not be given if units in French have been earned in high school. Weekly Language Learning Center attendance is required.

MLFR 105: Elementary French I: Designed to develop basic skills in students with limited prior knowledge of French. The language laboratory is an essential tool in the learning process. Emphasis placed on comprehension and conversational skills, and cultural understanding. Weekly Language Learning Center attendance is required.

MLFR 111: Intermediate French I: Designed to develop basic skills according to the needs of the students. The language laboratory is an essential tool in the learning process. Audio and videotapes stress cultural aspects of the French-speaking world. Weekly Language Learning Center attendance is required.

MLFR 203: French Language and Reading I: Designed to continue the development of the four skills--speaking, listening, reading and writing--this course will combine language practice with a content focused on contemporary social and cultural issues within France and the Francophone world. This course serves as entry into the French minor or major sequence of courses.

MLFR 306: Advanced French Conversation: Designed to develop accuracy and fluency in the spoken language.
