About
the German Program
The
German Program offers courses at the introductory, elementary,
and intermediate levels to fulfill the Saint Mary's College
modern languages requirement. To further enhance our program,
language clubs and foreign
study opportunities are available as well. Qualified
students are encouraged to study abroad in Innsbruck, Austria.
A minor or a major in German may be completed through courses
at the University of Notre Dame.

Courses Fall 2008:
MLGR
101: Introductory German I: Designed
to give beginning students a basic knowledge of the language.
Four class periods plus a language lab requirement. College
hours will not be given if units in German have been earned
in high school.
*MLGR
105: Elementary German I: Designed to develop basic
skills in students with limited prior knowledge of German.
The language laboratory is an essential tool in the learning
process. Emphasis placed on comprehension and conversational
skills, and cultural understanding. Four class periods and
a language lab requirement. *Offered according to student
demand.
MLGR
111: Intermediate German I: Designed to develop basic
skills according to the needs of the students. Four class
periods plus a language lab requirement. Cultural materials
are an integral part of the course.
*MLGR
123: Intermediate German Conversation and Reading I:
Designed to develop speaking and reading skills for intermediate-level
students and those planning to study in Innsbruck. May be
repeated for credit. Prerequisite: MLGR 101. *Offered
according to student demand.
