Volunteer Opportunities for Saint Mary's Students, Staff, and Faculty
Our volunteer opportunities are divided according to the type of work you would like to do. Follow the links below to explore the various ways you can become engaged in the Michiana community. You may also explore local agencies directly by category. You can also explore the answers to some frequently (un)asked questions.

CORE Groups
The idea behind CORE groups is to create a core of dedicated volunteers who are committed to a single agency in the South Bend area. This group would commit a certain amount of time per month to the agency, and also agree to meet as a group for discussion and reflection every other month. You can commit for a semester or a full academic year. We will establish CORE working partnerships with a limited number of agencies in the area. This is a great way for you to connect on a deep level not only with a local agency, but with other committed students. The benefits of this type of service include providing a consistent, reliable group of volunteers to an agency in need. If you would like to explore this idea some more, contact Carrie at the office.

Occasional Volunteers
This type of volunteering is designed for those who want to give a few hours of their time here and there but who cannot commit on a more structured basis. If you are interested in this type of service, there are a multitude of agencies in the area that would be happy to have you, no matter how much or how little time you have to give! If you would like more information about this opportunity, and to learn more about the various agencies, contact the office.
There are times when a single event will be planned, such as a day working with Habitat for Humanity on a local building project. These usually happen on the weekends and you are free to devote whatever amount of time you can give. We maintain a listing of one-time events for the college community, so if you are interested, click on the title above.
During the year the college hosts several food and clothing drives, planned by various groups. This is an easy way to really make a difference in someone’s life. To see a up-to-date listing of drives happening at the college, click on the title above.
