Saint Mary's College

E-mail @ saintmarys.edu

E-mail is the official form of communication at Saint Mary's College.

All Saint Mary's students are provided with a personal e-mail account, and their account can be used to send and receive e-mail anywhere in the world. E-mail addresses are in the form of username@saintmarys.edu and are automatically generated. Students cannot select their own usernames.

Since the College community depends upon the Saint Mary's e-mail system for all official correspondence, it is a student's responsibility to manage and monitor her e-mail inbox, and to ensure she is not over her e-mail account's quota.

A student must use her Saint Mary's e-mail address for all e-mail correspondence with Saint Mary's faculty and staff. If a student uses another account (AOL, Hotmail, etc.) to e-mail a faculty or staff member, the faculty or staff member will not respond. For this reason, we encourage students to have all their third-party e-mail forwarded to their Saint Mary's e-mail account, and to use the latter in all correspondence. (Access to third-party e-mail accounts is not blocked at Saint Mary's College, and students may continue to use those accounts for non-academic purposes if they wish.)

E-mail sent to and from Saint Mary's accounts are scanned for viruses and spam, which reduces unwanted messages in your account. Messages forwarded to Saint Mary's accounts (from AOL, Hotmail, etc.) are also scanned for your protection.

If a Saint Mary's student forgets her e-mail password, she must have it reset in person - requests via e-mail or telephone will not be honored for security reasons. If a student forgets her password, she can have her password reset at the ResNet Office (located in 102 Haggar Hall). Students must also show their student ID or government-issued photo ID to have their password reset.

Saint Mary's students may use Saint Mary's Webmail (which many of our students refer to simply as Zimbra or ZMail) to check their e-mail. Webmail allows students to access their e-mail from any computer connected to the Internet using a web browser.

Incoming students can receive their Saint Mary's e-mail account information when they attend one of the Summer Orientation sessions in June. Students who are unable to attend the summer orientation will have their account information mailed to them after the orientation sessions have been completed, and will need to complete all instructions in the mailing for the account to be activated. No account information will be mailed to students after August 1. Saint Mary's e-mail account information will only be provided to the student directly. The student must also show a government-issed photo ID card to receive their e-mail account information in person. No requests for account information via e-mail or telephone will be honored for security reasons.

Students who did not return their signed account forms or did not receive one will need to visit the ResNet Office during Orientation weekend to have their accounts activated.
