I would like to be able to access my personal network drive on Diamond while I am at home. Is this possible?
Yes, it is possible to access the files on your personal network drive (also known as the H: drive) from off-campus.
You can access your files from off-campus locations using eith SFTP or SCP, which stand for Secure File Transfer Protocol and Secure CoPy respectively.
For computers running Windows 98/Me/XP/Vista, you can use a free program called WinSCP. You can download the software at http://winscp.net/eng/download.php. Documentation for installing WinSCP can be found at http://www.saintmarys.edu/~merideth/JadeFTP.htm.
For computers running Mac OS X, Saint Mary's College has a site license for Fetch, which is a SFTP client. You can download Fetch from the ResNet Software (R:) drive, or download a free copy of Fetch from their website at http://fetchsoftworks.com/ as long as you are a current Saint Mary's student or faculty/staff. Previous versions of Fetch for older versions of Mac OS X are also available on the site.
After you download the SFTP/SCP software, install it as you would other programs. The host to use is jade.saintmarys.edu. Type in your Saint Mary's username and password where prompted. Any other fields just leave empty or at their defaults.
Please note that connecting to your personal network drive from off-campus is not supported by Information Technology and may not always be successful.
