Saint Mary's faculty, staff, and students are provided with personal network disk space on Diamond.

    • Faculty and staff have a quota of 150MB (150,000KB) of network disk space.
    • Students have a quota of 50MB (50,000KB) of network disk space.

To check your current disk quota:

    1. Visit the SMC Computer Account Management web page at http://www.saintmarys.edu/account
    2. Click on the button to select "Check disk quota."
    3. On the "Check your SMC Filespace Quota" page, type in your Saint Mary's username and password.
    4. Click on the "Show Quota" button.
    5. Using this method will show you what percentage of your quota you have used (if it is less than 100%, you are under your quota, if it is more than 100%, you are over your quota). It will also show you how much space you have used, what your quota limit is, and how many items are in your network drive.

If you are over your disk quota:

    1. Log in to computer a computer and connect to your network drive (the H: drive on a Windows computer, on a Macintosh it appears on your desktop with your username).
    2. Delete unnecessary items, such as backups of files that you no longer need.
    3. Delete items that take up a lot of space. Pictures, audio, and video files take up a considerable amount of space. Some PowerPoint presentations can also be quite big.
    4. Files that you no longer need frequent access to but want to keep can also be burned onto a CD for archiving. Instructions for burning data CDs in the computer clusters on campus can be found in the Clusters FAQ at http://www.saintmarys.edu/clusters/clustersfaq.
    5. DO NOT leave your network drive over its quota for an extended period of time or a loss of data may occur!

    Helpful tips:

    • Look for mp3, other music/audio files, video/movie files (.avi, .mpeg, .mov), and image files (.psd, .gif, .jpg), as they are usually very large. Delete them or copy them to a CD.
    • All of the computers in the computer clusters on campus have CD burners. Instructions for burning CDs on these computers can be found in the Clusters FAQ at http://www.saintmarys.edu/clusters/clustersfaq.
    • You have 7 days to correct being over your quota. After that, the system will not let you create/save new files or edit old files (they may become empty files if you try). If this happens, you will have to delete enough files to be under your quota before you can create/save new files or edit old files again.
