Modern
Languages Announces Major in Italian
The Department of Modern Languages announces the addition of the major
in Italian to the already existing majors in French and Spanish. A
student-generated initiative, the major in Italian is a natural outgrowth
of student interest in Italian language, literature and culture both
at Saint Mary’s College and in American colleges and universities
nationwide. The Saint Mary’s Rome Program, in existence since
1970 and the College’s largest foreign studies program, continues
to attract students and is at the heart of the newly implemented major
in Italian. In this endeavor the Italian faculty recognizes the groundwork
done on behalf of the Italian major by two of the Rome Program returnees:
Jessica Sloan, class of 2005, presently studying at the London School
of Economics and Maria Francesca Muscarello, Class of 2006, admitted
to the graduate program in Italian at Indiana University, Bloomington.
