The Department of Security is pleased to inform you of its continuing commitment to provide the safest possible environment for the community with our escort service.

Our department will once again provide the Escort Van Service (Blinkie) for the 2006-2007 school year! Positive community response last year regarding the success of this program was fantastic! The Security Escort Van service is scheduled to operate Sunday - Thursday, from 8:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. The Escort Van will also operate Friday and Saturday, from 8:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m. (Times adjusted during winter months due to darkness) More information will be provided at 2006-2007 Fall Orientation.

The Escort Van will follow a predetermined route this year, stopping at all the residence halls and interior parking lots. As in prior years, the Escort service can be obtained during the hours of darkness. You may call Security (574-284-5000) to find out where the Escort Van is - as well as to have them make a campus stop that is not on the route.

The Security Escort Van Route: Holy Cross Hall, Regina Hall, Regina Hall Lot, Senior (Facilities) Lot, Angela Lot, McCandless Hall, Opus Apartments, [trip to Grotto after Sweep ends] and finally - LeMans Bus stop.

When waiting in the parking lot - you are reminded to remain in your vehicle with the doors locked, keeping your headlights on to aid the Security vehicle in finding you. Please remember that there may at times be a short wait as the escort driver may be busy dropping off other passengers. Feel free to call Security to see where the Escort Van is.

The Saint Mary's and Notre Dame Security Departments remind you to Never walk alone--There is safety in numbers. If you are stranded alone on either campus an escort home can be arranged.

Students are encouraged to make use of Transpo's trolley - "The Sweep" for commuting back and forth to Notre Dame during the day and into the night. There is no fee for this transportation to and from Notre Dame for Saint Mary's College students/faculty/staff with ID card. (See Transpo schedule on this web site)

After the last Sweep trolley back to Saint Mary's, the Security Escort Van will extend it's run to the Grotto on Monday - Thursday, 10:30 p.m. until 2 a.m. It will also include the Grotto on Friday and Saturday, from 2:00 a.m. until 4 a.m. No calls for rides are necessary at this time....

After the Security Escort Van finishes it's last run for the day, Saint Mary's Security vehicle will be dispatched to pick you up at the Notre Dame Grotto Bus stop. Groups of two or less may contact Notre Dame Security for an escort to this point. This service will be offered after the last Security Escort Van run of the evening. (2:00 a.m. week nights, 4:00 a.m. weekends) until sunrise. Please be patient and expect delays at high traffic times. Security Officer will only be able to take 4 passengers at a time in the vehicle.

Notre Dame Security will also provide a walking escort from one location to another on their campus for two or fewer students during the hours of darkness.
