This
program was developed as a means of providing students with safe
transportation back to campus from local addresses when they have
no other way home.
If
a student is stranded off campus in an area of questionable safety (in the surrounding area)
and has no money with her to pay for a taxi, she can call the Security
Office at 284-5000 and explain her problem to the dispatcher. At
the discretion of the shift supervisor, one of the following options
will be taken:
- A taxi will be summoned by the dispatcher for the student. This
taxi will transport the student to the Security Office where emergency
funds will be used to pay the fare. The student will be required
to show her student ID or other identification at this time. She
will be expected to reimburse Security for the cab fare within
48 hours. Failure to reimburse the fund will cause
the fee and a $10.00 fine to be posted to her student account.
- If
a student is seriously concerned about her immediate safety, the
shift supervisor may elect to assign a security vehicle to go
to the off campus location and meet the student. If any difficulty
is anticipated, Security will notify the South Bend or County
Police Department and arrange for their assistance in meeting
the student.
All
Saint Mary's students are encouraged to utilize this service if
they find themselves in a situation in which they fear for their
safety. Please understand that this service should only be used
in emergencies.
