Social Work Majors of 2008

Connie Adams

I initially thought about Social Work because it is a field that offers a wide variety of opportunities to better humanity.  I began to study Social Work because I was able to see myself in the profession.  Now, I study Social Work because I am able to see the profession in myself.

Katie Cosimano

I chose social work because I’ve always enjoyed helping people. I’ve always wanted to make a difference in the world, and social work provided me with that opportunity. Volunteering and caring for others has always been an important part of my life and it wasn’t until I came to Saint Mary’s that I realized I could make a career out of these values and ethics. Social work allowed me to combine my passion of helping people with a theoretical knowledge base that I could put into practice. Social work was definitely the right choice for me and I look forward to making a career out of it.

Jessica Jarvis
I chose Social Work because it is the perfect integration of all my interests - Psychology, Sociology, and saving the world. It's such a rewarding field overall, and here at Saint Mary's I get to work with some incredible professors and an amazing program that will let me apply for advanced standing in graduate school!

Amy Rohm
I am Amy Rohm and I am a junior social work major. I am interested in advocacy, especially dealing with policy. I enjoy working with families and being a positive influence in someone's life. I plan to go on to graduate school and narrow my topic of study. I love being a social work student because it combines all of my job interests and hobbies into a major with potential for growth.

I chose social work because it is a profession in which I can truly make a difference in the world. I believe that the Saint Mary's program is preparing me to be a leader in my field and community by providing me with knowledgeable professors and mentors and the opportunity to gain valuable experience in area agencies.

Mary Anne Schell
I love the Social Work profession because it encompasses such a diverse composition of careers within it. So even when I graduate from SMC, I don't really have to know what I want to do for the rest of my life. I love it's flexibility.

Kimberly Smith
I'm Kimberly Smith and I'm from Carol Stream, IL. I chose Saint Mary's because it has a comfortable atmosphere. And I chose to be a social work major because I want to change the world, right the wrongs, correct all the injustices. I am very idealistic and I hope that I can be a voice for those who cannot speak. I know that I chose social work because it is a rewarding field and one that is flexible and full of opportunity.
