Strategic Area II
Cultivate Leadership and Enhance Communication.
A sense of community is not only an ideal at Saint Mary's College; it
is an actual strength and a constant goal of the College. We recognize
that the Mission of the College can best be fulfilled when the College
functions as a community.
Community is dependent upon leadership that models a spirit of inclusion,
valuing the opinions of all on campus, while revealing decision-making
processes. Coordinated and consistent communication will help us to maintain
the sense of community that we so strongly value. In a similar vein, communication
external to the College community will convey a consistent message about
the Mission, purpose and function of the College. The Catholic character
of the College will be clearly described and the distinctive features
of our academic and campus life will be clearly articulated.
Throughout our planning process, we have identified leadership and communication
as areas requiring our focused attention. Accountability is an integral
part of our strategic plan. A focus on leadership can provide the vision
and the energy needed to sustain efforts to improve all that we do and
the ways we do it.
