The Planning ProcessThe strategic planning process, Jubilee Community Commitment: Building a Learning Community, began with a College Reflection Day in June 1999. During the daylong session, academic chairs and department directors identified areas of concern and future challenges for the College. Beginning in July 1999 the Board of Trustees approved the Campus Master Plan. This plan presented a structured framework for the future development of the College. In summer 1999 a faculty/staff/student group entitled "Jubilee Community Commitment" was convened to review previous planning documents written during the decade of the 1990's. The group issued a preliminary summary in February 2000. After careful review and feedback from the College community, the committee issued a final report in June 2000 that identified ten priorities for the College: Catholic character, curriculum, diversity, enrollment, leadership/communication, student development, facilities planning, fiscal planning, human resources, and information technology. At its June retreat, the Administrative Council added marketing to the priority areas. During the summer of 2000 the Administrative Council, with the concurrence of the Board of Trustees, agreed that five priorities would be addressed in a five-year strategic plan: student development, curriculum, technology, diversity and marketing. The other six areas described in the June 2000 report were to be addressed in an ongoing way through existing College structures. In the summer of 2000 co-chairs were named for each of the five working subcommittees. Those leaders formed a steering committee that was co-chaired by a faculty member and a member of the administrative staff, with the Director of Institutional Research serving ex officio. Members of the College community were invited to serve on one of the five strategic planning subcommittees. In September 2000 the subcommittee members were named and the work began. During the fall of 2000 the subcommittees gathered ideas and initiatives from various constituencies of the College community to determine strategic priorities. The steering committee met regularly to organize and refine the materials presented by the subcommittees. A web site provided updated information and offered an additional vehicle for input from the College community. In January 2001 the leaders of the other six priority areas that had been identified by the original Jubilee Community Commitment group were incorporated into the steering committee. The full committee continued to organize and refine the work of the subcommittees into four primary areas of focus with corresponding strategic initiatives. In April 2001 the draft of the Strategic Plan was shared at a College community gathering and additional feedback was sought. In May the final proposal was made available to all members of the College community for review and comment. The document was reviewed with the Board of Trustees in June 2001. Distributed May, 2001
