Fischer’s Hat Trick Dooms Saint Mary’s
NOTRE DAME, IN – Julia Fischer’s three goals led Hope to a 3-1 victory over Saint Mary’s Saturday afternoon in MIAA soccer action.
The win gives Hope a 7-6 record overall and a 3-1 mark in league play while the Belles fall to 5-2-4 and 1-1-2 respectively.
Fischer’s first goal came in the 31st minute when she won a scramble in front of the net off a Lauren Miller corner kick. With 10:25 left in the first half, Fischer put home her second goal when the Belles failed to clear the ball out of their zone and she buried a shot in the back of the net from five yards out.
Her final goal was similar to the first when Fischer knocked home another Miller corner kick in the 54th minute. The Belles made it interesting when Julia Gragtmans found the back of the net off a feed from Samantha Goudreau in the 67th minute. Gragtman’s had another chance in the 73rd minute but her header was saved by Flying Dutch goalie Kelly Schaeffer.
Schaeffer made two saves in goal in posting the win. Hope held a 14-8 edge in overall shots while each team posted three corner kicks.
