Saint Mary’s Topples Adrian, 4-3

October 9, 2007, NOTRE DAME, IN – Four different Saint Mary’s players posted a goal as the Belles held on for a 4-3 win over Adrian Tuesday afternoon in MIAA soccer action.

The win lifts the Belles record to 6-2-4 overall and 2-1-2 in MIAA play as they run their unbeaten streak against Adrian to eight games (7-0-1) since the 2002 season. Adrian falls to 5-8 and 2-3 respectively.

Katie Wehrli opened the scoring just 1:36 into the contest when she blasted a shot past Bulldogs goalie Amanda House. Bridget Ronayne gave the Belles a 2-0 cushion with a goal off of a Samatha Smogar shot that rebounded right to Ronayne n the 29th minute. Smogar got on the board with a shot from the left side in the 37th minute. Adrian got their opening goal when Kelly Hutchins put home a Jami Pugh corner kick in the 42nd minute.

Lauren Hinton scored what proved to be the game winner in the 58th minute when she blasted a shot past House off a feed from Sarah DuBree. The Bulldog fought back with goals from Tara Trombley and Kalie Newman in the 59th and 83rd minutes but couldn’t overcome their deficit.

The Belles held a 19-7 edge in overall shots including a 14-6 advantage in shots on goal. Amy Mahoney made three saves in picking up the win in goal.
