Basketball - Anderson Rides Strong Second Period to Win
November 20, 2007, ANDERSON, IN – Anderson nailed 52.2 percent (12-of-23) of their second half field goal attempts in posting a 54-44 win over Saint Mary’s Tuesday evening in non-conference basketball action at O.C. Lewis Gynmasium. Saint Mary’s hit six of their 31 field goal attempts (19.4 percent) in the second half.
The loss drops the Belles to 1-2 while Anderson ups their record 2-1.
In the opening frame the Ravens jumped out to an 8-0 edge less than four minutes into the contest after the Belles opened the game with five turnovers and four missed shots on their first nine possessions.
However, Saint Mary’s responded by going on a 21-4 scoring spree in taking a 21-12 lead with 5:04 left in the half. Anderson was able to shrink their deficit as the Belles went into halftime with a 24-21 lead.
Anderson came out of the locker room with a 10-0 run to start the second half and never looked back. Saint Mary’s got within 35-32 on a Katie Rashid three-pointer with 10:32 left in the contest but that was as close as the Belles got in the second half.
Alison Kessler had a team high 11 points for the Belles. Erin Newsom and Anna Kammrath each grabbed a game high 12 rebounds in the losing effort.
Anderson forward Kayla Martin led all scorers with 21 in aiding the Raven’s 28-16 advantage in points in the paint.
