Swimming/Diving - Saint Mary’s Finishes Fifth at DePauw Invitational

November 30, 2007, GREENCASTLE, IN – The Saint Mary’s swimming team finished fifth out of 11 teams with 362 points at the DePauw Invitational. DePauw won the event with 835 points.

Melissa Gerbeth had one of the top meets in terms of individual swimmers. She tallied 31 of the Belles points by herself. The junior finished second in the 1650 yard freestyle, finishing in 18:19.96. Gerbeth finished sixth in the 400 yard IM with a time of 5:01.20. She also placed fifth in the 500 yard freestyle event (5:22.45).

Along with Gerbeth, Casey Nizer had a fine weekend by tallying 29 total Saint Mary’s team points. Nizer’s top race came during the 200 yard IM were she finished fourth with a time of 2:20.09. The freshman recorded a time of 2:18.08 in the 200 yard backstroke were she finished fifth. She also posted a top 10 finish in the 100 yard backstroke (1:04.98) where she placed seventh.

Caroline Arness contributed 20 points for the Belles efforts during the two-day event. Arness had her best finish in the 200 yard IM with a sixth place finish in a time of 2:21.55. Maggie Williams posted two top-10 finishes on the weekend to contribute 11 team points for the Belles. Williams finished sixth in the 100 yard backstroke (1:04.76) and eighth in the 200 yard backstroke (2:22.48).
