Basketball - Saint Mary’s Drops Home Opener to #13 Calvin, 67-52

December 5, 2007, NOTRE DAME, IN – Maria Harris registered a game high 23 points in leading #13 Calvin to a 67-52 win over Saint Mary’s in home opener for the Belles. It was also the first MIAA game for both squads.

The win lifts Calvin to 5-2 overall and 1-0 in league play while the Belles fall to 2-4 and 0-1 respectively.

Calvin held the Belles to just seven field goals on 34 attempts (19.6 percent) in the first half as they raced out to a 28-16 lead at intermission.

In the second frame the Knights upped their lead to 44-20 with 12:51 remaining in the game. Saint Mary’s got their deficit down to 11 points (58-47) with 3:09 left till the final horn but couldn’t draw any closer.

Alison Kessler scored 15 points while Anna Kammrath chipped in 13 to lead the Belles scoring efforts.

Sarah Partridge came off the bench to score 11 points in helping Calvin to a 25-4 scoring advantage in bench points.

Calvin, who came into the game as the best defense team in the MIAA, held Saint Mary’s to a 19-for-68 (27.9 percent) shooting effort.
