Basketball - Saint Mary’s Claims MIAA Victory Against Tri-State
December 8, 2007, ANGOLA, IN – Alison Kessler scored a game high 23 points and grabbed a personal best nine rebounds in helping Saint Mary’s to an 82-68 win over Tri-State on Saturday afternoon.
The win lifts the Belles record to 3-4 overall and 1-1 in MIAA play while Tri-State falls to 3-5 and 0-3 respectively.
Saint Mary’s broke open a tightly contest midway through the first half. With 9:49 left and the Belles holding a 20-19 edge, the visitors scored 24 of the half’s last 37 points in taking a 44-32 lead at intermission.
Less than four minutes into the second frame, the Belles held a seemingly comfortable 55-42 advantage with 16:02 left in the game. However the Thunder went on an 18-8 scoring spurt to get their deficit to 65-62 with 7:33 remaining. Tri-State would not get any closer than three points down the stretch. The Belles nailed all 10 of their foul shots to close out the game.
In addition Kessler’s efforts, Anna Kammrath posted a double-double with a 12-points, 11-rebound effort. Katie Rashid tied her career high by scoring 17 points while Erin Newsom chipped in 12 to round out the double figure scorers for the Belles.
Sarah Howe lead the Thunders efforts with a 23-points, 12-rebound performance.
