December 8, 2007, ALMA, MI – The Saint Mary’s swimming and diving squad finished the first half of their schedule with a 181-111 win over Alma Saturday afternoon at McClure Natatorium. Saint Mary’s won nine of the 16 events competed in

The Belles record now stands at 5-1 in dual meets with a 2-0 mark against league foes.

Casey Niezer was strong for the Belles in all three events she competed in. The freshman won the 100 yard breastroke (1:12.83) and the 100 yard freestyle (57.19) events. She was also a member of the 200 yard IM relay team that took first place with a time of 1:59.06.

Caroline Arness also won two individual events by claiming victory in the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 1:05.31 and then won the 200 yard IM in 2:24.40. Melissa Gerbeth continued her solid campaign with victories in the 200 yard freestyle (2:04.96) and the 500 yard freestyle events (5:29.67).

Lindsey Nelis claimed the 1000 yard freestyle with a time of 11:40.79. Maggie Williams placed first in the 100 yard backstroke (1:04.57) while Sara Niemann rounded out the individual winners for Saint Mary’s with a win in the 200 backstroke (2.22.39).
