MIAA Championships - Day 2
Swimming - Saint Mary's Remains in Fifth at MIAA Championships; Belles Set Three School Records
HOLLAND, MI – After the second of three days at the MIAA swimming/diving championships Saint Mary’s remains in fifth place with 129 team points. Defending champion Calvin continues to lead with 497 points held at the Holland Aquatic Center.
Melissa Gerbeth set a school record in the 400 yard IM with a time of 4:44.83 as she finished the event in fourth. That time beat her own time she set during the morning session of 4:45.43 set earlier in the day.
Maggie Williams finished fifth in the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 1:01.27. During the morning session she swam a new college mark of 1:00.95 besting her previous mark of 1:01.96 she set two weeks ago.
The final record fell in the last event of the day when the 800 yard relay team of Gerbeth, Casey Niezer, Rachel Kalas and Lindsey Nelis swam an 8:06.44 to place fourth. The foursome’s time bested the previous mark of 8:08.31 set in 2003.
