Basketball - Kessler Sets School Records in Win
NOTRE DAME, IN – Alison Kessler scored a game high 31 points as she set the Saint Mary’s career scoring record in leading the Belles to a 74-63 MIAA win over Adrian Wednesday evening.
Kessler passed the previous mark of 1533 career points set by Jennie Taubenheim from the 1992-1996 seasons. The senior guard set the mark with a free throw at the 4:35 mark of the first half. The LaPorte, Ind. native has now scored 1552 points in her career.
During her career setting night Kessler went 22-of-27 from the free throw line which sets the College record for most made free throws and most free throw attempts in a game. Her 22 made free throws is also a new MIAA record.
In a game that featured 47 total fouls, Saint Mary’s (11-12, 7-8) never trailed through out the contest as they went 31-for-40 from the charity stripe while Adrian converted nine of their 13 attempts from the foul line. The Belles made and attempted free throws are both season highs.
Erin Newsom contributed her fifth double of the season with a 20-point, 14-rebound effort for the Belles.
Adrian (8-15, 6-9) got a team high 18 points and 11 rebounds from Kim Olech.
Saint Mary’s will host Olivet on Saturday afternoon with the winner of the game securing the No. 4 seed and a home site first-round game for the MIAA Tournament which begins Tuesday evening.
