Belles Split First Games of the Year

FORT MYERS, FL – In their first two games of the season, the Saint Mary’s softball team started the year with a 10-0 win over Clark but fell to Anna Maria 14-12 in their second game on Sunday afternoon.

In the first game against Clark, Calli Davison pitched a three-hitter over five innings and struck out 12. She also went 1-for-2 at the plate with two runs batted in.

Offensively for Saint Mary’s Ashley Peterson put together a 3-for-3 effort with three singles and three runs scored. Freshman Hayley Bojorquez had two hits, drove in two runs and scored another during her first collegiate contest. Cathy Kurczak also posted a two hit effort with two runs scored and two RBI’s.

During the second game against Anna Maria, Ashley Fusaro had a three-hit game with four RBI’s but it wasn’t enough as Anna Maria pounded out 15 hits.

Davison took the loss in the relief. She gave up nine hits and nine runs, four of which were earned, in five innings of work. The Saint Mary’s defense gave up five unearned runs.
