Peterson Named MIAA Player of the Week
NOTRE DAME, IN – Sophomore outfielder Ashley Peterson has been named the MIAA softball Player of the Week after helping Saint Mary’s to four wins last week. It is the first time in her career she has earned the weekly accolade.
Peterson (Lansing, IL/Marian Catholic HS) went 11-for-13 at the plate last week with seven RBI’s and six runs scored. She also recorded eight putouts from the centerfield position.
In the Belles doubleheader sweep at Robert Morris (W, 6-3 & W, 10-6) on Wednesday, she combined to go 5-for-7 at the plate with five RBI’s and two runs scored.
Three days later in the MIAA opener against Calvin (W, 6-5 & W, 5-0) she posted a hit in all six of her at-bats in the sweep. Of her six hits, three of them went for extra bases (two doubles, one triple) as she tallied four total runs scored and two RBI’s.
Peterson is hitting a team best .517 this season. She had also posted team bests in RBI’s (23), total hits (20) and slugging percentage (.724). Peterson is tied for the team lead with 20 runs scored.
The Belles are currently 13-3 overall, 2-0 in MIAA play. Saint Mary’s plays two MIAA doubleheaders this week.
