Fusaro Named MIAA Player of the Week

NOTRE DAME, IN – Junior catcher Ashley Fusaro has been named the MIAA softball Player of the Week after helping Saint Mary’s to two wins last week. It is the first time in her career she has earned the weekly accolade.

Fusaro (Kalispell, MT/Flathead HS) went 6-for-13 (.462 batting average) at the plate last week with seven RBI’s and five runs scored. Two of her hits went for extra bases as she recorded a double and her first homerun of the year.

In the Belles doubleheader split at Olivet (L, 6-5 [10] & W, 10-2) on Thursday, she combined to go 3-for-6 at the plate with two RBI’s and three runs scored.

Two days later in the Belles MIAA game against defending league champion Alma (L, 9-1 & W, 11-8) she posted three hits in seven at-bats with all three coming in the second game. In that contest, she tallied what proved to be the game winning hit with a three-run homerun in the fifth inning. Fusaro went 3-for-5 in the second game with five RBI’s and two runs scored.

Fusaro is the squad’s third leading hitter with a .353 batting average. She is also third on the team in RBI’s (17) and hits (24).

The Belles are currently 15-5 overall, 4-2 in MIAA play. Saint Mary’s plays Bethel (IN) on Monday evening in a single game at Notre Dame’s Ivy Field before traveling to Albion for an MIAA doubleheader on Saturday.
