Saint Mary’s Finishes Second to Olivet in MIAA Qualifier
MARSHALL, MI – In the final round of the MIAA qualifier for the NCAA Golf Championships, Saint Mary’s fired the low round with a team score of 342 but finished the 54-hole event in second place to Olivet who shot a 343 on Saturday afternoon. The final two rounds where played at the Medalist Golf Club on Friday and Saturday.
Of the seven schools that sponsor golf in the MIAA, the team which has the lowest cumulative score after the completion of the three rounds will get the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. Olivet tallied a three-round total of 1012 while Saint Mary’s carded a 1034 to finish second overall.
Saint Mary’s still could earn an at-large bid to the NCAA Championships when the selections are announced on Monday, May 5.
Leading the way for the Belles in the final round was Katie O’Brien who fired an 81. Rosie O’Conner posted an 84 for the second best score for Saint Mary’s while Emily Gore notched an 86 to place third. Perri Hamma (91) and Meghan Lehr (92) rounded out the scoring golfers for the Belles.
Competing as individuals, Meredith Fanton and Michelle Hird each fired an 89 while Katie McInerney recorded a 95.
