Three Belles Earn MIAA Honors;
Peterson, Corrigan Named to First-Team, Kurczak on Second-Team

NOTRE DAME, IN – Ashley Peterson, McKenna Corrigan and Cathy Kurczak each received MIAA honors which were announced on Tuesday afternoon. Peterson and Corrigan were given First-Team accolades while Kurczak was named to the league’s Second-Team.

It is the first time all three players have earned either first or second team MIAA honors. The voting for the league awards is done by the nine coaches in the conference and is based on games against MIAA foes.

Peterson (Lansing, IL/Marian Catholic) became the first Saint Mary’s player since 2004 to win the MIAA batting title. During league games the outfielder batted .580 against conference pitching. Peterson also posted league highs for total bases (50), hits (29) and RBI’s (15). Her 29 hits ties the all-time MIAA record for hits in a season.

The sophomore also recorded the best on-base percentage (.650) and slugging percentage (1.000) in the MIAA.

Corrigan (Westlake, OH/Magnificat) went undefeated on the mound with a 7-0 record and a 3.72 ERA. She was the only pitcher with five or more decision to go undefeated. In addition, she became the first Saint Mary’s pitcher to post a perfect MIAA record.

At the plate she led the league with six homeruns and 17 RBI’s to go along with her .333 batting average and .725 slugging percentage.

Kurczak (Roselle, IL/Lake Park) tied for second in the league with seven sacrifice bunts and still managed to tally a .348 batting average. She started all 16 games at second base and was one of 10 players to post a perfect fielding percentage. The junior didn’t commit an error in 59 chances.

Saint Mary’s finished the season with a 23-10 overall record with a 12-4 mark in MIAA play. The 12 league wins represents the most for a Belles squad since joining the league in the 1998 season.
