Peterson Earns Second-Team All-American Honors

SALEM, VA – Ashley Peterson was named to the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division III All-American Second-Team on Thursday evening at the annual awards banquet held prior to the NCAA DIII Championships.

In addition to the All-American honor, Peterson was named the All-Central Region First-Team as well as the MIAA First-Team All-Conference squad.

Peterson (Lansing, IL/Marian Catholic) recorded a team best .500 batting average as the No. 3 batter in the line-up. The sophomore also posted a team best .560 on-base and .773 slugging percentages. Her 55 hits this season set a new Saint Mary’s record for hits in a season, breaking the previous mark of 53 set by Andrea Arena during the 1997 campaign.

She also had team highs with 36 RBI’s and 37 runs scored. She also led the team in doubles (14), walks (14) and total bases (85). Peterson notched 18 multi-hit games while starting all 33 games.

Nationally, Peterson ranked in the Top 50 in five separate offensive categories. Her batting average placed her 14th nationally with her on-base percentage ranking her 15th among all Division III players. She also positioned herself nationally in doubles (29th), runs scored (49th) and slugging percentage (50th).

The outfielder also became the first Saint Mary’s player since 2004 to win the MIAA batting title. During league games the outfielder batted .580 against conference pitching. She tallied 29 hits in league play which ties the conference record for hits in a season.

Peterson also recorded the best on-base percentage (.650) and slugging percentage (1.000) in MIAA contests.

Saint Mary’s finished the season with a 23-10 overall record with a 12-4 mark in MIAA play. The 12 league wins represents the most for a Belles squad since joining the league in the 1998 season.
