Maggie McFarland Rousseau ’82

Maggie turned the sorrow of losing her son into finding joy for others through Christ.

Her Story

Maggie spent her years at Saint Mary's College immersed in her chosen major of Political Science.  After spending a semester working on Capitol Hill, she then began her career thinking that her life would be centered around public policy, when God took her on a different journey. Maggie gave birth to a beautiful boy Christopher who had medical needs and disabilities that meant living one day at a time, sometimes not even sure that she would  see Christopher make it another year. As this difficult journey continued Maggie and her husband Scott, and two other children, learned that Christopher had much to teach them and all of us in his short time on earth. When Christopher passed away Maggie went on to get her Masters in Education and worked as a special education teacher, and then to her next calling, working for the Diocese of Atlanta in Disability Ministry.  Now Maggie spends her days remembering that EVERYONE is worthy of God's love through the sacraments and finding ways to ensure that individuals with disabilities can share in the sacraments with special teaching. Though Maggie has suffered much loss, she has decided to find joy in helping others. Though this was not the journey she imagined life would take her on, I know Maggie has trusted in our Lord and that her beautiful angel Christopher has no doubt been leading the way.
