2007-08 Season Record

Dual Match Results: 12-10 (overall), 5-3 (MIAA)

Tennis - Belles Finish Fifth; Gebert, Hurley Earn Honors

E. LANSING, MI – At the season ending MIAA Tournament, the Saint Mary’s tennis team posted a 5-2 victory over Alma in the fifth place match of the consolation bracket. The Belles season ends with a 12-10 record.

The All-Conference awards for regular season play were handed out at the tournament. Camille Gebert, the Belles No. 1 player, earned First-Team honors after posting a 5-3 mark in league matches. Jillian Hurley earned Second-Team accolades as she notched an 8-0 mark at the No. 2 singles spot. It is the first time since the 2005 season two more players from Saint Mary’s earned MIAA honors.

Tennis - Belles Post Fifth Straight Victory

 

ALMA, MI – In their final regular season match of the season, Saint Mary’s recoded an 8-1 victory over Alma. It was the fifth straight and sixth win in their last seven matches for the Belles.

Saint Mary’s won all six singles matches in straights sets as they secured the No. 4 seed for the MIAA Tournament which begins Friday morning at Albion College.

Tennis - Belles Cruise Past Adrian, 9-0

NOTRE DAME, IN – Saint Mary’s didn’t drop a set in easily knocking off MIAA opponent Adrian 9-0 on Thursday afternoon at the SMC Tennis Courts.

The win lifts the Belles record to 8-9 overall and 3-3 in MIAA play while Adrian falls to 5-12 and 2-6 respectively.

Tennis - Saint Mary's Takes Out Bethel, 7-2

NOTRE DAME, IN – Saint Mary’s grabbed momentum early by sweeping the double matches in beating cross-county rival Bethel 7-2 in non-conference tennis action at the SMC Tennis Courts.

The win lifts the Belles record 7-9 while Bethel falls to 10-5.

Tennis - Saint Mary's Overtakes Tri-State, 8-1

NILES, MI – Saint Mary’s dropped just one set in singles play and took two of three in doubles as they posted an 8-1 MIAA tennis victory over Tri-State on Saturday afternoon. The match was moved to Lakeland Athletic Club because of rainy weather.

The win lifts the Belles record to 6-9 and 2-3 in league play while Tri-State falls to 3-9 and 0-6 respectively.

Tennis - Hope Grabs Early Momentum in Victory

HOLLAND, MI – Hope swept the doubles matches and used that momentum to carry them to victories in five of the six singles matches to post an 8-1 win over Saint Mary’s in MIAA tennis action at the DeWitt Tennis Center.

The win lifts the Flying Dutch’s record to 9-5 and 1-2 in league play while Saint Mary’s falls to 5-9 and 1-3 respectively.

Tennis -- Saint Mary’s Sweeps Olivet, 9-0

 

LANSING, MI – The Saint Mary’s tennis team didn’t drop set in picking up their first MIAA win of the season over Olivet at the MSU Tennis Center.

The win lifts the Belles record to 5-8 overall and 1-2 in league play while Olivet goes to 1-7 and 0-3 respectively.

Tennis -- #28 Wheaton Eases By Saint Mary's

WHEATON, IL – In the final match of Jack Swartz Invitational, #28 Wheaton grabbed momentum early by sweeping the doubles matches and dropped just three sets in singles as they beat Saint Mary’s 6-3. The four-team, two-day invitational is hosted by Wheaton College.

Tennis -- Olivet Nazarene Knocks Off Saint Mary's, 6-3

WHEATON, IL – During the opening match of Jack Swartz Invitational, Olivet Nazarene grabbed momentum early by sweeping the doubles matches in helping them beat Saint Mary’s 6-3. The four-team, two-day invitational is hosted by Wheaton College.

Tennis -- Calvin Spoils Saint Mary's Home Opener

NOTRE DAME, IN – Calvin grabbed momentum in doubles and used strong singles play in the middle of their line-up in posting a 6-3 win over Saint Mary’s Wednesday evening at the Eck Tennis Center.

Calvin ups its record to 7-1 overall and 1-0 in MIAA play while Saint Mary’s falls to 4-6 and 0-2 respectively.

Tennis -- Strong Singles Play Lifts Albion Past Saint Mary's

ALBION, MI – Albion took five of the six singles match en route to knocking off Saint Mary’s 6-3 in MIAA tennis action at the Ungrodt Tennis Center on the campus of Albion.

 

The win lifts the Britons, the three-time defending league champions, record to 7-0 and 3-0 in league play while Saint Mary’s falls to 4-5 and 0-1 respectively.

Tennis -- Saint Mary's Drops Tight Match to Indiana Wesleyan

GREENWOOD, IN – Indiana Wesleyan won a tightly contested non-conference tennis match 6-3 over Saint Mary’s Saturday afternoon at the Howard County Tennis Center.

 

Indiana Wesleyan, ranked 16th in the most recent NAIA national polls, ups its overall record to 14-1 while Saint Mary’s falls to 4-4.

Tennis -- Saint Mary's Splits with NCAA Tournament Teams

ORLANDO, FL – On the final day of their season opening spring break trip, the Saint Mary’s tennis knocked off the College of St. Scholastica 7-2 in the morning but fell to Wayne State 6-1 during the afternoon on Friday.

The College of St. Scholastica qualified for the DIII NCAA Tournament last year while Wayne State earned a bid at the DII level.

Tennis - Belles Post Sweep of Ursaline

ORLANDO, FL – The Saint Mary’s tennis team didn’t drop a set for the second straight match in sweeping part Ursaline 9-0 on Thursday afternoon.

 

The Belles improve their record to 3-2 with the win.

Methodist, an NCAA Tournament qualifier in 2007, ups its record to 4-1. Saint Mary’s is 0-1.
