Soccer -- Crabbe Hired to Lead Soccer Program (April 3)

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The Saint Mary’s athletic department has hired Ryan Crabbe as the head coach of the Belles soccer program. Crabbe is the first full-time soccer coach at Saint Mary’s.

Previously Crabbe served as the assistant coach at Columbus State University since the 2005 season. During his three years with the Cougars he helped guide them to consecutive Peach Belt tournament championships in 2006 and 2007. In addition to their post-season success, Columbus State won the league’s regular season title during all three seasons he served on head coach Jay Entlich’s staff.

Soccer - Higgins Named to MIAA Second-Team (November 9)

NOTRE DAME, IN – Senior defender Justine Higgins was named to the MIAA Second-Team All-Conference squad at the annual coaches meeting on Thursday afternoon. It is the first time that Higgins has garnered All-Conference honors.

The native of Naperville, Ill., helped Saint Mary’s post six shutouts and hold the opposition to a 1.17 goals against average. Belle opponents were held to 6.5 shots on a goal per game.

Soccer - Hope Ends Saint Mary’s Season in MIAA Tournament

HOLLAND, MI – In the first round of the MIAA soccer tournament, fourth seed Hope knocked off Saint Mary’s 1-0 on Saturday afternoon

The Belles season ends with a 7-5-5 mark while Hope moves on to play top seeded Calvin in the semifinal round of the tournament on Tuesday.


Soccer - Alma Hands Saint Mary’s 3-2 Setback (October 24)

ALMA, MI – In the final regular season game for both teams, Alma posted a 3-2 win over Saint Mary’s in MIAA soccer action Wednesday afternoon.

The win lifts Alma to 8-7-2 overall and 3-4-1 in league play while Saint Mary’s falls to 7-4-5 and 3-3-2 respectively.


Soccer - Saint Mary’s, Illinois Wesleyan Play to Draw (October 20)

BLOOMINGTON, IL – The Saint Mary’s soccer team posted their fifth tie of the season with a 1-1 decision against Illinois Wesleyan in a non-conference match-up

After the contest the Belles record now stands at 7-3-5 while Illinois Wesleyan moves to 7-7-2.


Soccer - Hinton, Durkin Post Hat Tricks in Saint Mary’s Victory (October 16)

KatyANGOLA, IN – Lauren Hinton and Katy Durkin both tallied a hat trick in Saint Mary’s 8-2 win over Tri-State Tuesday afternoon in MIAA soccer action.

The win lifts the Belles record to 7-3-4 overall and 3-2-2 in league play while Tri-State drops to 0-12-2 and 0-5 respectively.


Soccer - Calvin Knocks Off Saint Mary’s, 2-0 (October 13)

GRAND RAPIDS, MI – A pair of bookend goals lifted Calvin to a 2-0 victory over Saint Mary’s on Saturday afternoon in MIAA soccer action.

The win lifts Calvin’s record to 10-3-1 overall and 5-0 in MIAA play while the Belles fall to 6-3-4 and 2-2-2 respectively.


Soccer - Saint Mary's Topples Adrian, 4-3 (October 9)

NOTRE DAME, IN – Four different Saint Mary’s players posted a goal as the Belles held on for a 4-3 win over Adrian Tuesday afternoon in MIAA soccer action.

The win lifts the Belles record to 6-2-4 overall and 2-1-2 in MIAA play as they run their unbeaten streak against Adrian to eight games (7-0-1) since the 2002 season. Adrian falls to 5-8 and 2-3 respectively.


Soccer - Fischer's Hat Trick Dooms Saint Mary's (October 6)

NOTRE DAME, IN – Julia Fischer's three goals led Hope to a 3-1 victory over Saint Mary's Saturday afternoon in MIAA soccer action.

The win gives Hope a 7-6 record overall and a 3-1 mark in league play while the Belles fall to 5-2-4 and 1-1-2 respectively.


Soccer - Saint Mary's, Albion Battle to 1-1 Draw (September 25)

Katie Mills scored what proved to be the equalizing goal in the 57th minute as Albion rallied to tie Saint Mary’s 1-1 Tuesday afternoon in MIAA soccer action.

Saint Mary’s record now stands at 5-1-3 and 1-0-1 in league play while Albion moves to 7-1-2 and 1-0-1 respectively.


Soccer - Belles Sweep Weekly MIAA Honors (September 23)

Justine Higgins was named the MIAA Offensive Player of the Week while teammate Bridget Ronayne was honored as the league’s Defensive Player of the Week as the Belles tied North Central last Sunday 0-0 then opened MIAA play with a 2-1 victory over Kalamazoo this past Saturday.


Soccer -Two Second Half Goals Lift Saint Mary's (September 22)

The Saint Mary’s soccer team scored two goals in the final 13 minutes of the game to post a 2-1 victory over Kalamazoo, Saturday in the MIAA opener for both teams.


Soccer - Belles Claim Title with Shootout Victory (September 16)

After playing for 110 minutes, the Saint Mary’s and North Central soccer teams fought to a 0-0 tie. Although the game official ends in a tie, the Belles won the Sal Vaccaro Invitational over the hosts with a 5-3 victory in a shootout.

The Belles record now stands at 4-1-2 while North Central moves to 3-2-1. The tournament win also gives the Belles their second tournament championships of the season after claiming the Case Western Tournament title the first weekend of September.


Soccer -Durkin Scores Two Goals in Belles Victory (September 15)

Sophomore Katy Durkin scored the first two goals of her collegiate career in helping Saint Mary’s to a 3-0 win over Mount Mercy at the Sal Vaccaro Invitational hosted by North Central College.

Durkin scored the first of her two goals in the 56th minute before coming back less than 15 minutes later with a goal off a Jessica Slean assist in the 68th minute.


Soccer - Saint Mary's, Calvin Compete to 0-0 Draw (September 12)

In the second home match of the season, Saint Mary’s and Calvin competed for 90 minutes in a contest that ended with a 0-0 score on Wednesday afternoon.

Amy Mahoney made five saves for the Belles in posting her third shutout of the season while Calvin goalie Kayla Sulzer recorded one save to record her first shutout of the year.


Soccer - Belles Drop First Contest of 2007 (September 8)

The Saint Mary’s soccer team dropped their first match of the season with a 3-1 loss to Hope College on Saturday afternoon.

The loss puts the Belles record at 3-1 while Hope evens its mark to 2-2. Hope held a 21-10 edge in overall shots and a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks.


Soccer - Belles Stay Unbeaten with 1-0 Win (September 5)

NOTRE DAME, IN – The Saint Mary’s soccer opened the home portion of their schedule with a 1-0 victory over Manchester College Wednesday afternoon.

The Belles stay unbeaten as they up their record to 3-0 while Manchester falls to 1-2.


Soccer - Victory at Case Western Tournament (September 2)

With their 3-0 win over Lawrence University Sunday afternoon, the Saint Mary’s soccer team won the Case Western Reserve Tournament Championship.

On Saturday the Belles beat the host Spartans 2-1 en route to claiming the two-day, three-team tournament.
