Box Score (pdf)
ALMA, Mich. - The Saint Mary's College basketball team set a new standard on Saturday by winning their 11th MIAA contest with a 66-39 victory over Alma. No other Saint Mary's basketball team has won 11 or more games in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play.
The Belles took a 6-5 lead 4:43 into the game and built a ten point lead by halftime. The second half was all Saint Mary's as the Belles outscored the Scots 36-19 over the second 20 minutes of play. The Belles outscored the Scots in points off of turnovers (21-10), points in the paint (26-12), second chance points (14-4), and bench points (27-24).
The 39 points allowed is the fewest point total scored by a Belles' opponent since Saint Mary's defeated Rose Hulman 50-38 on December 6, 2002.
Anna Kammrath led all players in the game with 12 points and nine rebounds. Erin Newsom and Jessica Centa both added 10 points as eleven different players scored for the Belles.
With the win, the Belles also secured at least a second place finish in the MIAA as they would own the tiebreaker over Trine. Another "first" for the program, a Saint Mary's basketball team has never finished higher than third place in the league until this year's squad.
The Belles return home to host Adrian College on Wednesday, February 11 at 7:30 p.m. The Belles will be hosting a Breast Cancer Awareness event along with the Women's Basketball Coaches Association's (WBCA) annual Pink Week. Over 1,250 teams and organizations are on board to participate in this year's Pink Week.
