Box Score (pdf)

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - A week after suffering their first loss in MIAA play this season, the Saint Mary's College basketball team responded with an 81-63 win over Kalamazoo College on Wednesday.

The Belles used a strong shooting performance to establish an early lead and never look back against the Hornets.  Saint Mary's made their first six shots from the floor to take a 15-2 lead less than four minutes into the game.  Kalamazoo would cut the Saint Mary's lead to six points with 6:58 left before the half.  The Belles, however, pushed their lead back to double-digits and led by 15 at the half.

In the second half, the Belles increased their lead to 20 less than five minutes into the period.  Down the stretch, Saint Mary's would maintain at least a 17 point lead as they took their seventh MIAA win to stay atop the league standings with Hope College.

Patsy Mahoney had the hot shooting hand in the first half for the Belles.  The freshman guard was a perfect 6-for-6 from the floor, including 2-for-2 from behind the arc, in the first half to help the Belles to an impressive 58.1% (18-of-31) shooting performance in the opening frame.  Erin Newsom was hot on Mahoney's heels in the first half, shooting 4-for-6 from the floor and 4-for-4 from the free throw line.  The pair both finished the game with a team-high 14 points.

Maggie Ronan had a strong shooting second half with a 5-for-6 effort from the floor and finished with 13 points for the Belles.  Kelley Murphy rounded out the double-digit scoring efforts with 10 points of her own.

The Belles, now 7-1 in MIAA play, will travel to Trine on Saturday, January 24 for a 3:00 p.m. tip-off against the Thunder.
