Belles Earn Tenth MIAA Win

NOTRE DAME, Ind. - The Saint Mary's College basketball team tied the school record for the most MIAA wins in program history by earning their 10th league win with a 86-54 victory over Olivet College.
The game was close early as the teams tied three times and traded the lead four times through the first eleven and a half minutes. The Belles took the lead for good at the 8:38 mark on a pair of free throws by Erin Newsom. Saint Mary's then went on to outscore the Comets 24-2 from Newsom's free throws through the end of the half to take 45-23 at halftime.
The Belles maintained at least a 17 point lead throughout the second half and built up to a 36 point lead at one point. Saint Mary's shot 45.8% from the floor for the game on a 33-of-72 shooting night.
Kelley Murphy led all scorers in the game with a 14 point performance. Erin Newsom chipped in 13 points of her own in the win. Anna Kammrath and Maggie Ronan rounded out the double-digit scorers for the Belles with 10 points each.
The 10 MIAA wins ties the most wins in the conference for a Belles' team since joining the league in 1998. The 2006-07 squad finished the season with 10 MIAA wins.
The Belles will travel to Alma College on Saturday for a 3:00 p.m. tip-off time against the Scots.
