Box Score (pdf)
ANDERSON, Ind. - After picking up the first season-opening in over a decade, the Saint Mary's College basketball team fell 65-64 to Robert Morris in the championship of the Anderson University Tip-Off Tournament.
In a closely-played game that saw the score tied 13 times, neither team would establish a lead larger than five points.
The Belles used a pair of layups in the final 1:30 of the first half to take a 25-22 lead to the locker room.
The difference in the second half, however, would be the Lady Eagles' three-point shooting. RMC was 4-10 from behind the arc in the second 20 minutes to outscore the Belles 43-39 in the half.
Saint Mary's had their final lead of the contest with 5:35 left in the game on a pair of free throws by Anna Kammrath. The Belles tied up the score with 2:46 left and again with :42 remaining on baskets by Erin Newsom. Robert Morris, however, capitalized on a Saint Mary's foul with 22 seconds left to take the 65-64 lead. The Belles were unable to net the go-ahead basket in the final seconds as the Lady Eagles took the one-point win.
Newsom scored 22 of her game-high 26 points in the second half. The senior went 8-for-8 from the charity stripe and also added eight rebounds in just 27 minutes on the court. For her efforts on the weekend, Newsom was named to the all-tournament team.
Anna Kammrath had her first double-double of the year as she grabbed a game-high 16 rebounds and scored 12 points in the loss.
The Belles will look to bounce back when they host Wheaton (Ill.) College on Tuesday, November 25 for their home-opener at 6:00 p.m.
