Belles Finish Second at Wittenberg
SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - The Saint Mary's College golf team finished second at the Wittenberg Spring Invitational with a combined score of 644 at the two day tournament.
13th ranked Allegheny took the team title with a 637 to trade places with the Belles in the standings. The Belles finished ahead of #11 DePauw (660) as well as #19 Ohio Northern (675).
Emily Gore earned medalist honors for the second time this spring season. The sophomore finished day two with a 78 after firing an 80 yesterday for a 158. Natalie Matuszak finished the tournament with a 160 over the two days, shooting an 84 in the second round to finish in a tie for fourth place. The pair earned All-Tournament honors for their impressive play on the weekend.
Mary Kate Boyce helped pace the Belles to a second place team finish among four top-25 teams, shooting a 162 (79-83) over the two days, which was good enough for eighth. Rosie O'Connor was just two strokes behind for the tournament with a 164 for 11th. Meredith Fantom rounded out the scoring five for the Belles with a 177 on the weekend.
The Belles will look to earn the MIAA's automatic qualifying berth into the NCAA Division III Championships when they head to Marshall, Michigan for the conference's last two of three 18 hole rounds to determine the league's representative. Fall MIAA Champion Olivet will host the second and third rounds at the Medalist Golf Course April 24 and 25.
