NOTRE DAME, Ind. - The margin of victory was decided in the final event of the evening, but the Saint Mary's College swimming and diving team would be edged out by the visiting Kalamazoo College Hornets as the Belles suffered a 155-145 dual meet loss on Friday night.

Trailing the visiting Kalamazoo Hornets by five points entering the final event of the evening, the Belles needed a win in the 400 yard freestyle relay to take their third dual win in head to head MIAA competition this season. The Hornets, however, would prevail in the event and take the dual meet win.

The Belles jumped out to a quick start by winning the first two events of the evening in the 400 yard medley relay and the 1000 yard freestyle.  Maggie Williams, Audrey Dalrymple, Eva Cavadini, and Barbara Beidler put together the best time of the season in the 400 medley relay with a time of 4:11.07.  Melissa Gerbeth posted a season-best 11:00.97 in the 1000 free to take the win by seven and a half seconds.  Later in the meet, Gerbeth took top honors in the 500 yard freestyle with another season-best time of 5:22.87.

Audrey Dalrymple took a pair of first place finishes in the 100 and 200 yard breaststroke events with times of 1:10.55 and 2:33.67.   The freshman also added a first place finish in the 200 yard IM with a season-best time of 2:15.64.  Maggie Williams had a pair of strong performances in the 100 and 200 yard backstroke events.  She finished first in the 100 with a 1:03.07 and later took second in the 200 with a 2:16.94.

Several additional Belles posted their best times of the season in their respective events.  Eva Cavadini's time of 1:01.61 in the 400 yard medley relay was a personal best for her this season.  Leah Bocinsky improved her scores in both the 1 meter and 3 meter diving events.  Barbara Beidler's 26.50 in the 50 yard freestyle was .1 faster than her previous best time.  Kate Orbon took .21 off of her time in the 100 yard freestyle with a 57.01.  Caroline Arness trimmed an impressive 1.31 off of her time in the 100 yard butterfly with a 1:04.03 performance on Friday.

The Belles will conclude the regular season portion of their schedule when they host Olivet College next Saturday, February 7 at Rolfs Aquatic Center.
