Belles Finish Ninth at Calvin Inivtational

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- In a meet packed with regionally and nationally ranked talent, the Saint Mary's College cross country team put together a ninth place finish at the Calvin College Knight Invitational on Saturday.

The field of teams at the race included USTFCCCA Division III top 25 teams Calvin (#2), Case Western (#10), and UW-Oshkosh (#20) as well Division II top 25 team Grand Valley State University (#3).  Ohio Northern and Baldwin Wallace, also in the field on Saturday, are ranked as the #6 and #8 teams in the Great Lakes Region.  Aquinas College (Mich.) was yet another ranked team at the Knight Invitational as the #15 team in the NAIA.

The Belles' five scoring runners all finished within 35 seconds of each other, led once again by Megan McClowry.  The junior completed the 5k course in 20:22 for her best finish of the season.  Following up McClowry were Joanne Almond and Catie Salyer, who finished in 20:29 and 20:30, respectively. 

Turning in one of the best performances of her career was senior co-captain Caitlin Brodmerkel, who finished the race in 20:32 for a career PR.  The fifth Saint Mary's runner to finish on Saturday was freshman Arianne Rodriguez with a time of 20:57.

Among the non-scoring finishers for the Belles was senior Erin Seidelmann, who finished in 22:59 for a career PR of her own.

The Belles will next be in action on Friday, September 26 when they host the MIAA Jamboree on the campus of Saint Mary's College.  The men's race will begin at 5:00 p.m. and the women's race will follow at 6:00 p.m.
