Belles Begin 2008 Season at Ferris State Bulldog Invitational
BIG RAPIDS, Mich. -- The Saint Mary's golf team has gotten off to a solid start in day one of the Ferris State Bulldog Invitational on Saturday.
The Belles posted a 337 team score, which puts them in seventh place out of 16 teams. NCAA Division II member Grand Valley State is currently in the lead after shooting a 298 at the Katke Golf Course in Big Rapids, Mich.
Freshman Natalie Matuszak started her collegiate campaign out in stellar fashion, as she led the team with a 78 at the par 72 course. Classmate Kailey Jacob had the second-best round of the day for the Belles by firing an 83.
One stroke behind Jacob was senior Perri Hamma with an 84. Sophomore Emily Gore also had a solid day for the Belles by shooting a 92.
The two-day tournament in Big Rapids will conclude tomorrow as the Belles continue to compete against a field of NCAA Division II and III competition.
