SMC vs. Case Western

Belles fall to Case Western in 2008 season opener

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The Saint Mary's College soccer team dropped a 4-1 decision against the host Spartans in both teams' season opener at the Case Western Reserve Tournament.

The host Spartans scored the first goal of the game in the seventh minute on an unassisted goal by Ana Arruda.  Less than nine minutes later, the Belles notched the equalizer when Lauren Hinton connected with Micki Hedinger for the team's first goal of the 2008 campaign.

The Spartan offense proved to be too potent on Saturday, however, as Case Western got the game-winning goal in the 21st minute of the game.  The Spartans added insurance goals in the 34th and 67th goal to claim the 4-1 victory over the Belles.

Nicole Beier and Patty Duffy each played a half in goal for the Belles.  Beier suffered the loss in goal while registering four saves in her debut with the soccer team.  Duffy took the field for the second half and made six saves for the Belles.

The Belles (0-1-0) will face Hiram College in day two of the Case Western Reserve Tournament at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, August 31.
