Belles Fall in Double Overtime

HOLLAND, Mich. -- Lauren Hinton scored her fourth goal of the season, but the Belles fell 2-1 to Hope College in double overtime on Saturday afternoon.

The Belles struck first in the 18th minute of the contest when Colleen Ferguson connected with Hinton to give Saint Mary's the early 1-0 advantage. 

The score remained 1-0 in favor of the Belles until midway through the second half when the Flying Dutch got the equalizer in the 70th minute.  At the end of regulation, the score was still knotted at 1-1 to force overtime.  Neither team was able to break through for the win in the first overtime session.  Hope's Katie Lovinger broke the deadlock and earned the Flying Dutch the win with the game-winning goal in the 103rd minute.

Patty Duffy had 10 saves in goal for the Belles.

Saint Mary's will travel to Adrian College on Tuesday, October 7 for a conference contest against the Bulldogs at 4:00 p.m.
