Comeback Falls Short for Belles Against Titans

NOTRE DAME, Ind. -- The Belles put together a late rally against Illinois Wesleyan on a chilly Wednesday afternoon, but were unable to get the equalizer as Saint Mary's fell 2-1 to the visiting Titans.

Illinois Wesleyan got on the board in the 10th minute by taking advantage of a corner kick that took a Titan bounce through the box to an open Erin Kugler.  The Titans would score the game-winner 1:50 into the second half to go up 2-0.

The Belles would not go quietly, however.  Micki Hedinger fed a pass through the Illinois Wesleyan defense to Lauren Hinton, whose shot found the back of the net in the 83rd minute to cut the lead to 2-1.  Time was not on the side of the Belles though as Saint Mary's dropped the decision by the final 2-1 margin.

Patty Duffy made four saves for the Belles in the loss.

The Belles will get back to the MIAA portion of their schedule when they travel to Hope College on Saturday, October 4 for a noon kick-off against the Flying Dutch.
