Slupczynski, Kurczak Earn All-MIAA Honors
ROYAL OAK, Mich. – The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association announced their All-MIAA teams Monday evening. Among the honorees were Saint Mary’s College junior Lorna Slupczynski and senior Cathy Kurczak.
Slupczynski (St. John, Ind./Andrean) led the team with 202 kills against MIAA opponents on the season to average 3.37 kills per set to earn All-MIAA Second Team honors. The junior outside hitter was third on the team in digs against league opposition with 194 in 17 matches. Slupczynski also earned All-MIAA Second Team honors last season and was named the MIAA’s Freshman of the Year in 2006.
Kurczak (Roselle, Ill./Lake Park) also earned All-MIAA Second Team honors for her efforts this season. The senior middle hitter had 149 kills and a team-best .234 hitting percentage on the season. She also led the team in blocking with 34 blocks this season. This is the first All-MIAA honor for Kurczak in volleyball.
