Box Score (pdf)

NOTRE DAME, Ind. -- The Saint Mary's College volleyball team had their season ended by the visiting Adrian College Bulldogs on Tuesday night in the first round of the MIAA Tournament by a 3-1 (21-25, 25-22, 25-21, 25-29) margin.

The Belles came out in the first set and gained a quick 9-4 lead before the Bulldogs called a timeout.  The Belles were then able to stretch their lead to seven points on a kill by Kaela Hellmann to go up 14-7.  Adrian took advantage of some Saint Mary's miscues while getting some key kills to come back into the first set and tie the score at 18-18 and 19-19.  A kill by Jacee Watson and two more by Hellmann proved to be the push the Belles needed as Saint Mary's took the first set down the stretch by a 25-21 margin.

In the second and third sets, both teams played very tightly until midway through the set.  In the second set, the visitors from Adrian were in control of much of the set and stretched their lead and held on for a 25-22 decision.  In the third set, the Belles had held the edge until the match was tied 15-15.  Adrian then took a lead they would not relinquish and took the third set.

In the fourth set, some costly mistakes early proved to be the difference to swing the momentum to the Bulldogs for the remainder of the match as fifth-seeded Adrian defeated fourth-seeded Saint Mary's, 3-1.

Kaela Hellmann had a match-high 18 kills and added a team-best 25 digs for the Belles.  Cathy Kurczak added 13 kills and Lorna Slupczynski had 10 more kills for Saint Mary's.  Meg Rose added 21 digs for the Belles, while Liana Rohr led the team with 43 assists on the evening.

The Belles end their season with a 18-11 overall record and finished with a 9-7 mark in MIAA contests.
