Belles Bounce Back Against Brits
NOTRE DAME, Ind. - Less than 24 hours after a tough loss to NCAA DII #14 University of Indianapolis, the Saint Mary's College swimming and diving team picked up a big dual meet victory over conference opponent Albion College by a 167-124 score.
The Belles turned in the top performance in every event on the day with the exception of the 3 meter diving.
Melissa Gerbeth had the top times in the 1000 yard freestyle (11:07.64), 200 yard freestyle (2:04.15), and 500 yard freestyle (5:29.33). Her times in the 1000 and 200 were both improvements upon her top times this season.
Audrey Dalrymple also improved her top times of the season in the 100 and 200 yard breaststroke. Her 1:08.74 in the 100 yard breaststroke was an improvement of .71 of a second and was just .08 off of the school record. The 2:28.43 she posted in the 200 yard breaststroke was .33 better than her fastest time this season and set the school record for the fastest 200 yard breaststroke by a tenth of a second.
In the 100 yard freestyle, all four Belles in the event cut time off of their previous best times. Katie Donovan took 1.05 off of her previous best with a 57.13. Kate Orbon cut her best time by 1.18 by finishing in 57.22.
Leah Bocinsky also added a season-best in the 1 meter diving with a 196.40.
The Belles will take to the road next weekend when they travel to NCAA Division II Hillsdale College (Mich.) for a 1:00 p.m. start Saturday, January 24.
