Belles Earn Highest Finish Ever in Commissioner's Cup Standings

ROYAL OAK, Mich. - Earlier this week, the final standings for the 2008-2009 MIAA Commissioner's Cup were released by the conference office.  Saint Mary's finished the school year in third in the Women's All-Sport Standings for the College's highest-ever finish.

Hope and Calvin were both ahead of the Belles in the Women's All-Sport Standings with scores of 114 and 104, respectively.  Saint Mary's (74) edged Albion (72) by two points for sole possession of third place.

The MIAA Commissioner’s Cup award is based on the cumulative performance of each member school in the league's 18 sports for men and women. The final Commissioner’s Cup standings are determined on the basis of each college's standings in eight of nine sports for men and eight of nine sports for women. The Commissioner’s Cup has been presented since 1934-35. Hope has won the award 31 times, followed by Albion 14, Kalamazoo 13, Calvin 9 and Alma 5.

Hope finished the school year with a cummulative score of 208 (94 - men's sports; 104 - women's sports) to claim their 31st Commissioner's Cup.
