NFCA All-Region 2009

NFCA Tabs Peterson as First Team All-Region

STARKVILLE, Miss. - Saint Mary's College outfielder Ashley Peterson was named First Team All-Region in the Central Region for the second straight year by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.

The junior finished the season with a .500 overall batting average for the second consecutive season.   She also had 13 doubles, six home runs, 27 runs scored, and 35 RBIs on the year to lead the team.  Peterson finished the spring with an .849 slugging percentage and a .547 on-base percentage.  Her totals in doubles, slugging percentage, and on-base percentage rank her among the top 40 NCAA Division III softball players this season.  Moreover, Peterson currently ranks 20th in the country in toughest to strikeout and 11th in batting average.

All NFCA First Team All-Region selections from the eight regions will be voted upon for All-American consideration.  All-Americans will be announced later this month before the NCAA DIII Championships.

This is the second honor the junior has been awarded with in consecutive seasons this week.  Earlier in the week, Peterson was named to the All-MIAA First Team for the second year in a row.
