NOTRE DAME, Ind. - The Saint Mary's College softball team swept an MIAA doubleheader from Albion on Saturday by 6-4 and 8-1 scores.

In game one, the visiting Britons scored in the top of the first inning.  Their lead would be short-lived for the Brits, however, as the Belles tallied three runs in the bottom half of the inning to take a lead they would not relinquish.  Lauren Enayati drew a lead-off walk to get things going in the bottom of the first.  Maureen Healy then reached base safely on an error by the Albion second baseman.  Ashley Peterson followed with an RBI double off of the left field fence to plate Enayati.  Hayley Bojorquez drove in the second run of the inning on a single through the right side of the defense.  Peterson then scored when the Brits opted to get Katie Rashid out at first to give the Belles the 3-1 advantage.

The Belles notched a pair of runs in the bottom of the third inning as Ashley Fusaro and Kate Mitchell scored on an infield single to the 5-6 hole by Katie Rashid to put Saint Mary's up 5-1.

Cathy Kurczak added what proved to be an insurance run for the Belles in the bottom half of the fourth inning.  The senior led off the inning by drawing a walk.  After moving to third on a pair of bunts, Kurczak scored on a ground out by Peterson to put the Belles up 6-1 after four complete.

The Brits added a pair of runs in the top of the fifth and scored their fourth run in the top of the sixth, but the Belles' defense cut the comeback short for Albion as Saint Mary's took game one 6-4.

Monica Palicki earned her 10th win of the season, striking out a pair while scattering eight hits over seven innings of work.

Fusaro and Bojorquez each had two hits for the Belles while Rashid added three RBIs to pace the offensive attack.

In the second game of the day, the Belles scored early and often to set the tone of the game from the get go.  With one out in the top of the first, Kristen Nelson tripled down the right field line to start things off for the Belles.  Ashley Peterson followed her up with a single up the middle to plate Nelson for the game's first run.  Two batters later, Kate Mitchell added a double to the right center gap to score Peterson and give Saint Mary's a quick 2-0 lead.

After Albion scored a run in the bottom of the first, the Belles responded by plating two more runs in the top of the second inning. The Belles then added three more runs in the top of the third inning.  Ashley Fusaro led off the top of the third with her 15th career home run with a towering shot over the center field fence.  Katie Rashid and Cathy Kurczak then drove home Hayley Bojorquez and Emily Treat for the 6-1 lead.

In the top of the seventh, Treat capped off a stellar game at the plate with her third double to lead off the inning.  The sophmore then scored on a fielder's choice to wrap up the scoring for the Belles.

Angela Gillis had more than enough offensive support as she picked up her 12th pitching victory of the season.  After the first inning, the Brits would be able to only get three more batters on base as Gillis surrendered just four hits over seven complete innings in the circle for the Belles.

Treat finished the game with a perfect 4-for-4 performance from the plate with three doubles while scoring two runs.  Nelson went 3-for-5 from the dish in game two, coming a home run short of the cycle with two RBIs and a run scored.  Kate Mitchell and Lauren Enayati each added two more hits in the game as the Belles won their 22nd game of the season.

The Belles (22-4, 6-2 MIAA) will return to action on Wednesday, April 15 when they host Hope College for an MIAA doubleheader beginning at 3:30 p.m.
