Belles Fall to Scots
ALMA, Mich. - The Saint Mary's College softball team had a seven-game winning streak snapped with a pair of losses at Alma College on Saturday.
The Scots scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth and six in the bottom of the sixth to take a 9-1 win in five innings in the first game of the doubleheader.
The Belles scored their lone run of the game in the top of the fifth inning when Kristen Nelson belted her second home run of the season over the center field fence.
Monica Palicki suffered the game one loss on the mound for the Belles in over four innings of work.
In game two, the Belles used an all-around effort in the bottom of the third inning to score three runs on four hits to take a 3-0 lead. Cathy Kurczak and Lauren Enayati started things off with a pair of back-to-back singles. After the pair moved into scoring position on a sacrifice bunt by Maureen Healy, Ashley Peterson walked to load the bases. Ashley Fusaro drove in Kurczak on a single to left field for the game's first run. Two batters later, Hayley Bojorquez hit a two-out double to right center field to score Peterson and Fusaro.
The Scots, however, scored four runs over the final three innings of the game to take a 4-3 win from the Belles.
Angela Gillis suffered her first loss of the season in the circle for the Belles, striking out three while going the distance for Saint Mary's. Lauren Enayati had a pair of hits in game two to lead the Belles from the dish.
The Belles (18-4, 4-2 MIAA) are slated to take on cross-town rival Bethel College at 6:00 p.m. at the University of Notre Dame's Melissa Cook Stadium on Monday, April 6.
