Belles Finish Florida Trip on High Note
FORT MYERS, Fla. - The Saint Mary's College softball team completed their trip to the Gene Cusic Classic with a pair of wins on Thursday.
In a 5-0 win over Curry (Mass.), five Belles registered multi-hit performances at the plate. Ashley Fusaro led the way by going 4-for-4 and scored two runs. Lauren Enayati, Sara Montelongo, and Hayley Bojorquez each went 2-for-3 at the dish in the victory. Montelongo and Bojorquez both hit a double while Enayati scored two runs for the Belles. Cathy Kurczak rounded out the multi-hit efforts by going 2-for-4 with a pair of singles.
Monica Palicki earned the shut out win by allowing just three hits while striking out four.
In the final game of the week for the Belles, some clutch hitting in the top of the seventh inning lifted Saint Mary's to a 4-0 win over Bowdoin (Maine). Lauren Enayati drilled a bases-loaded triple to break a scoreless tie and give the Belles a 3-0 lead. Two batters later, Ashley Peterson hit one of her two singles of the game to drive in Enayati for the Belles' fourth run of the game. Kurczak added another multi-hit game by going 2-for-3 while scoring a run in the ninth win of the week for Saint Mary's.
Angela Gillis improved her record to 5-0, scattering four hits over seven innings and not allowing a walk.
The Belles (9-1) will return north and are slated to host Goshen College on Tuesday, March 17 for a doubleheader beginning at 3:30 p.m.
