Strong Start Continues for Belles
FORT MYERS, Fla. - The Saint Mary's softball team pushed their record to 6-0 with wins over SUNY Oswego and Fitchburg State on Tuesday afternoon at the Gene Cusic Classic.
In a 10-2 (6 inn.) victory over SUNY Oswego, four different Belles registered multi-hit performances in the mercy-rule-shortened game. Lauren Enayati was 3-for-3 in the win over the Lakers with two runs scored and an RBI. Ashley Peterson went 3-for-4 at the dish with a run scored an a pair of RBIs. Seniors Ashley Fusaro and Cathy Kurczak each added two hits of their own, combining for two runs and three RBIs.
Monica Palicki moved her record to 3-0 on the year, giving up five hits in six innings while walking just one.
The Belles took a 3-0 win over Fitchburg State (Mass.) in the second game of the day. Freshman Kate Mitchell went 2-for-3 with a pair of singles in the victory. Peterson and Lindsey Thielmann both hit a double and drove in a run for the Belles.
Angela Gillis also improved her record to 3-0, surrendering just four singles and striking out eight in the seven inning shutout.
The Belles (6-0) will take on Elms (Mass.) and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (N.Y.) on Wednesday.
